ILM Level 5 Certificate in Coaching and Mentoring

Purpose and aims of qualification
Aimed at managers responsible for coaching/mentoring newly appointed managers, professional/senior technical staff, it is an ideal
qualification for managers with significant responsibility for coaching and mentoring as part of their day-to-day role. It also develops those learners planning to move
into a development role or start a career as a freelance coach and mentor.

The Level 5 Certificate in Coaching and Mentoring consists of THREE units:
• Unit 1 (500) – Understanding the skills, principles and practice of effective management coaching and mentoring
• Unit 2 (501) – Undertaking Management Coaching or Mentoring in the workplace
• Unit 3 (503) - Reviewing own ability as a management coach or mentor


Assignments
There are three assignments consisting of:
• ILM Assignment Unit 1: Essay/Report
• ILM Assignment Unit 2: Reflective Report
• ILM Assignment 3: Coaching
 (a) Minimum of 12 hours formal and contracted coaching or mentoring
 (b) Report and reflective account of performance as a coach


Your Programme
NB: The Programme for the Level 5 Certificate in Coaching and Mentoring consists of 3 training days.
You must attend ALL days.

Day 1- Induction
• Purpose of coaching and mentoring
• Skills and behaviours of a coach
• Models of coaching
• Contracts 


Day 2
• Key principles of effective coaching in the workplace
• Assessing skills, knowledge and behaviour
• Critical review and reflection of effectiveness as a coach or mentor
• Personal development as a coach 


Day 3
• Planning and preparing coaching or mentoring programme
• Identify development needs and goals
• Keeping coaching records and the coaching diary
• Feedback and evaluation


Progression Routes
The qualification provides opportunities for progression to other qualifications such as:
• ILM Level 5 Diploma in Coaching and Mentoring
• ILM Level 7 Certificate in Executive Coaching and Mentoring
• ILM Level 7 Diploma in Executive Coaching and Mentoring
