OCR Level 4 Diploma in Careers Information and Advice Units

This programme of selected Units from The Level 4 Diploma in Careers Information and Advice aims to provide accredited professional development opportunities for those currently working within the Career Guidance sector, or those preparing to enter such roles, and to encourage progression within the sector.

The programme selects key units from the Level 4 Diploma in Careers Information and Advice to allow learners to obtain accreditation in a number of key units relevant to organisational delivery in the current careers, information and advice arena.

 

Accredited Units:

Unit 1 Preparing To Work In The Career, Advice And Guidance Sector

This unit will enable learners to demonstrate their understanding of the Careers, Information, Advice & Guidance (CIAG) sector including definitions of roles, codes of practice and features/structure of the CIAG sector including how their role fits into this.

Unit 2  Reflecting On Practice And Continuous Professional Development

This unit will enables learners to explore the important role of reflective practice and Continuous Professional development within their role as an IAG professional. Learners consider the methods for reflecting on practice and consider approaches to their CPD, culminating in a demonstration of reflective practice and CPD activities within their portfolio.

Unit 3 Interview Clients To Determine Their Need For Career, Information, Advice And Guidance

This unit will enable learners to explore and practice the current models for interviewing clients and also focuses on skills used within this setting. Learners have the opportunity to practice skills within the workshop prior to practical assessment.

Unit 5 Career Choice Theories And Concepts For Supporting Clients

This unit will enable learners to examine, research and demonstrate their understanding of key models for supporting clients along with starting to explore some of the key career theory relevant to practice within current the Careers, Information, Advice and Guidance arena.

Unit 10 Explore And Agree How To Meet The Career-Related Needs Of Clients

This unit will enable learners to explore and demonstrate methods for exploring and agreeing career-related needs of clients.  Learners focus on the structured interview approach including contracting and agenda setting and action planning with clients.  Learners have the opportunity to practice skills within the workshop prior to practical assessment.

Unit 13 Assist Clients To Apply For Learning And Work

This unit will enable learners to analyse methods for assisting clients to apply for learning and work opportunities within their role. The learner will examine differing methods and relative features including advantages and disadvantages of each including how they help clients overcome problems and barriers.


Your Programme

Your programme consists of three training days:

Day 1 

  • Induction
  • You, Your Service and your Client 
  • Reflective and Professional Practice

Day 2 

  • Interviewing skills and model(s) for supporting clients including an introduction to Career Choice theories

Day 3 

  • Supporting clients in their applications to learning & work
  • Portfolio and Evaluation workshop


How Are The Units Assessed?  

You will complete worksheet activities during your workshop days which will help you to prepare for a mixture of practical and written assignments e.g. case study, questions and observation of recorded interviews.
