Traineeships

Courses for 16-18 year olds

Prepare yourself for your future career with our specially-developed Traineeship courses.

Aimed at those who are not currently in education or training and tailored to suit the needs of the individual, our Traineeships help you gain the skills and experience you need to become ‘work-ready’.

What is a Traineeship?

A Traineeship is a new Government programme developed in response to research showing that young people frequently lack the skills employers expect in the workplace, and the confidence to take the first step.

Lasting from 12 weeks up to a maximum of 26 weeks, traineeships combine work preparation training, Maths and English support and a targeted work experience placement. This will make you more attractive to prospective employers and will give you the training, skills and confidence you need to take your first step on the career ladder.

Is a Traineeship right for me?

Are you motivated to get a job, but lack the skills and experience that employers are looking for? Have you been unsuccessfully applying for Apprenticeships?

If the below applies to you then you could be eligible-

  • Unemployed (or work less than 16 hours per week)
  • Lacking work experience
  • Motivated to work
  • Aged 16-18 inclusive and are qualified below Level 3 (equivalent to two or more A-level passes)

Traineeships are not suitable for those who work more than 16 hours per week, or who already possess the necessary skills and experience to find work.

What happens after a Traineeship?

Upon successfully completing a Traineeship you will have the necessary skills and experience to ensure you are ready for the world of work.

At the end of your Traineeship you will be guaranteed a job interview at the company where you are undertaking your work placement if a role becomes available. Where there is no vacancy you will be given an exit interview and a reference, which are often crucial in securing a job role.

What are the benefits of a Traineeship?

A Traineeship puts you in a stronger position to compete for an Apprenticeship or other jobs. They allow you to gain valuable experience with employers and provide vital content for your CV.

Improving your English and Maths skills will boost your chances of securing your first job, as well as improving your long term career prospects and boosting your earning potential over your lifetime.
